Maintaining oral health requires daily hygiene, but sometimes that’s not enough, and inflammation may occur. One common disease is periodontitis – an inflammatory condition of the gums caused by bacteria, which can be chronic or acute. If diagnosed, periodontitis cannot be treated at home, as home care can only relieve symptoms.

When plaque remains on the teeth for a long time, saliva helps it harden into tartar. This cannot be removed with home care – only a specialist can do it. If left untreated, it leads to gum bleeding and inflammation, and harmful bacteria can spread to the digestive tract, triggering various diseases.

Causes and symptoms

Local factors: bacteria, bite issues, trauma, lack of saliva.
General factors: metabolic disorders, smoking, heredity, nutrient deficiency, stress, certain medications (corticosteroids, immunosuppressants).

Acute periodontitis presents with redness, swelling, and bleeding of gums; chronic forms show the same but more subtly, and if unnoticed, can lead to tooth loss.

Dental cleaning consists of three stages

1. Preparation: applying a protective balm to the lips, using a soft retractor (OptraGate), providing safety glasses, and placing a saliva ejector.
2. Cleaning: using an ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar, followed by AIRFLOW to clean tooth surfaces.
3. Polishing: using special paste and brush to slow down plaque buildup.

For people with healthy teeth, this procedure is recommended twice a year. For those with conditions or orthodontic appliances, the dentist will recommend an appropriate frequency. At the end, the dentist will provide personalized care recommendations and help select the best oral care products.
