White Spots on Teeth: Main Causes
A white spot is an area of enamel that has lost minerals (calcium, phosphorus) and become porous. The main reasons for its appearance include:
- Incipient Caries — the “white spot” stage, where enamel erosion is present but a cavity has not yet formed.
- Post-Braces Effects — if oral hygiene was insufficient, light marks may remain where the brackets were located after the system is removed.
- Fluorosis — excessive fluoride in the body during the period of tooth formation.
